Peter R. Beukema

Peter R. Beukema, President:
Peter R. Beukema and his wife Carol founded Suburban Inns, a family owned and operated hotel management company, in 1979. With over 30 years in the hospitality industry, Beukema continues to build top quality and award winning hotels throughout Michigan.  He has owned and operated hotels that have successfully flown flags under some of the top brands and franchises in the hospitality industry.


 


Development:

Brian Beukema

Brian Beukema, President of Property Development:
Brian Beukema is the President of Property Development for Suburban Inns, a family owned and operated hotel management company that was founded over three decades ago.  Beukema oversees hotel and restaurant construction and remodels.

 


Lucas Ulberg

Lucas Ulberg, Manager of Property Development:
Lucas is the Manager of Property Development for Suburban Inns. Ulberg is focused on the company's growth through new projects, and is responsible for managing these projects as well as property remodels. Prior to joining Suburban Inns, he worked as a Project Manager for Lamar Construction Company. His project list includes: Woodways Renovations (Zeeland), Kaczmarski Hearing Clinic (Grand Rapids), Lakeshore Candle (Zeeland), Lorence & VanderZwart Renovations (Holland), Holiday Inn (Suburban Inns, Midland), D&W Fresh Market (Grand Rapids) and D&H Building (South Bend).
 
Lucas holds an Associate Degree in Applied Arts and Sciences, Architectural Drafting Technology, from Grand Rapids Community College.
 
He currently resides in Allendale with his wife, Tara, and their two children.

 


Operations:

Peter D. Beukema CHA

Peter D. Beukema CHA, Chief Operating Officer:
Peter Beukema is the Chief Operating Officer for Suburban Inns, a family owned and operated hotel and restaurant management and development company which was founded over 33 years ago.  Peter oversees the Operations, Company Expansion, Marketing, and Information Technology.
 
Peter has become extremely active in the community and in the industry by serving on Holland's Tulip Time Board of Directors and as 1st Vice Chair on the Executive Committee.  Beukema is very active with the IHG Owners Association and also with the Michigan Lodging Association, advocating at state and national levels to promote tourism.  He is also serving a three year term (2009-2012) on the Board of Directors for the Bayshore Yacht Club and is finishing that commitment up as Commodore from August 19, 2011 to August 17, 2012.
 
In July of 2011, Peter stepped out of the day to day operations when David Schroeder was promoted to the Director of Operations, and now Peter spend time working on the Operations rather than in the Operations while ensuring the Suburban Inns core values are being delivered.  This has allowed Peter to take a greater focus on marketing, IT, and championing the Visionary roll working to perfect the product and atmosphere.  
 
Peter Beukema attended Northwood University in Florida, and then returned to Michigan where he is integral in the expansion of the family business.  He has been married for 6 years to Michelle, and has two sons named Easton and Carson.  Peter's hobbies include flying, boating, scuba diving, and losing golf balls.

 


David Schroeder CHA

David Schroeder CHA, Director of Operations:
David Schroeder brings more than 29 years of experience in the hotel industry to Suburban Inns, including two years as the General Manager of the Suburban Inns property, the Holiday Inn of Midland. Mr. Schroeder started as a Chef with Marriott hotels in Boston, Massachusetts and South Bend, Indiana. Schroeder spent eight years as an Executive Chef before entering the hotel management side of the hospitality business. His culinary career spanned much of the Midwest with time in Kansas, Indiana, Texas, and several locations in Michigan. David spent 11 years with Larkin Hotels, the largest Holiday Inn franchise in the world. He was Regional Director responsible for 16 hotels in five states. Most recently Mr. Schroeder was Manager of the Midland Country Club and Director of Club Operations for the Resorts of Tullymore& St. Ives. He was responsible for the opening of the new facility at Tullymore and within two years of opening the resort under his leadership, was voted the number one resort in the State of Michigan
 
He is a graduate of Michigan State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Management. He holds many sales certifications, as well as a degree from the Walt Disney Institute, and Certified Hotel Administrator credentials from the American Hotel & Lodging Educational Institute.

 


Lori Varner

Lori Varner, Vice President of Sales:
Lori Varner has been employed by Suburban Inns for 10 years. Her prior experience includes work for Arlington Hospitality as Regional Sales Director and Director of Motor Coach Marketing. She was responsible for sales and marketing for 60 hotels in 16 states. 
 
Varner has a degree in broadcasting from Delta College and Central Michigan University, and had a career in radio broadcasting for more than seven years. She is involved in the Holland Rotary Noon Club, was chairperson for their Fundraising Committee, and former 5K Run/Walk Race Director for the Holland Rotary Run. Currently, she is President of the Holland Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors until 2013.

 


Bob Flavin

Bob Flavin, Communications Director:
Bob Flavin is the Communications Director for Suburban Inns.  Flavin is responsible for all corporate communications and graphic design, including social media, website maintenance, Search Engine Optimization (SEO), and print media. He leads in the development of marketing plans and promotional items for the company's portfolio.
 
Flavin joined the Suburban Inns team in June of 2010 as a Guest Service Representative at the Holiday Inn Express of Holland, and was selected as the Communications Director just a few months later. Bob currently serves on the programming committee for the Tulip Time Festival in Holland, Michigan. This prestigious group has been ranked in ABA's “Top 100 Events” for over 20 years. Flavin is also a member of the Membership Development Committee with the Holland Young Professionals Organization. 
 
Before his time at Suburban Inns, Flavin was a guest services, marketing, and video production intern for Gull Lake Ministries in Hickory Corners, Michigan.  He earned his degree in Communications from Hope College in Holland, Michigan.

 


Finance & Administration

Randy Riemeresma

Randy Riemersma, Chief Financial Officer:
Randy received his Associates Degree from Davenport University and his BSBA Degree from Davenport University. Randy has worked for Carpenter Paper CO. performing all facets of their accounting and management area for 31 years. Randy began with Suburban Inns in 2004, taking charge of the accounting department with the responsibility for all facets of the accounting for Suburban Inns.

 


Jessica Babcock

Jessica Babcock, Human Resources Generalist:
Jessica Babcock has been employed by Suburban Inns for over ten years.  She started working front desk in operations at the Holiday Inn Express of Holland in July of 2001.  In 2003, she transferred to Sharkee's Bar and Grill inside the Hampton Inn of Holland to gain food and beverage experience. 
 
Babcock graduated from Grand Valley State University in 2005 with a degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management and a minor in Business.  After graduation, she began working as the Executive Assistant to the Chief Executive Officer of Suburban Inns.  In 2009, Babcock was given the opportunity to become the Property Manager of the Holiday Inn Express of Grandville where she would work for two years.  Today she is working as the Human Resources Generalist with the Chief Financial Officer of Suburban Inns.
 
Jessica completed an internship in food and beverage with the West Michigan Whitecaps, as well as managing the front desk of the Grand Canyon North Rim Lodge for the Xanterra Parks and Resorts.

 


Wanda Schreur

Casey Marietta, Executive Assistant to the CFO:
Casey Marietta started her hospitality career in 2002 at the front desk of the Hampton Inn of Gaylord, MI. Within a year, she was promoted to General Manager and gained a variety of managing knowledge through Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn Express and the full-service Holiday Inn of Traverse City. In 2008 she decided to continue her growth in hospitality and joined the Suburban Inns team as the General Manager of the Hampton Inn of Holland.

Casey continues to expand her knowledge when she transitioned to the Finance office of Suburban Inns and is now the Executive Assistant to Randy Riemersma.

 

Casey holds an Associate's Degree in Legal Studies from Davenport University.

 


Wanda Schreur, Comptroller:
Wanda Schreur has been employed by Suburban Inns for over fifteen years. She began her employment as Assistant Manager at the Hampton Inn of Holland, Michigan. In 2000, Schreur became the General Manager at the Hampton Inn. Wanda stepped down as the General Manager in 2007, and became the Comptroller for the Hampton Inn, Sharkee's Bar and Grill, and the Holiday Inn Express in Holland. She came to Suburban Inns with 30 years of experience in the hospitality industry.
